New Redken Fashion Waves 07

Nothing says summer like beachy waves! Redken has a new texturizing sea spray that can help you get perfect beachy waves, every time!
Oh my gosh we LOVE THIS STUFF!!

fashion waves

We asked a group of students to play with new Redken Fashion Waves 07 and give us their impressions. The results are pretty impressive!

Student stylist’s name: Samantha S

Model: Lindsay C

What products did you use?: Redken Fashion Waves 07, Redken Fashion Work 12 Hairspray, Redken Powder Grip 03

What was your method?: Using a flat iron, I spritzed the section of hair to be curled with Fashion Waves, curled each section, and then sprayed each section with Fashion Work to set. I also used Powder Grip for volume around the crown of her head.

What do you like about Fashion Waves?: I love the hold this product offers without restricting movement. The desired end result was a fun, relaxed wave and we got just that! I was also pleasantly surprised that despite being a sea salt spray, the hair still had a fair amount of shine!

Student stylist’s name: Kayleen M

Model: Sarah M

What products did you use?: Redken Fashion Waves 07, Body Full Volume Amplifier, and Curvaceous Wind-Up

What was your method?: Volume Amplifier close to the roots of her hair, and Fashion Waves all throughout. I dried her hair with a diffuser, and when it was almost dry, I used Wind Up. Our goal was to play up her natural curl for a very natural look.

What do you like about it?: The smell is pretty amazing! It helped to give Sarah a beachy look. Her hair felt really soft which was great because other salt sprays can make hair feel dry!

Student stylist’s name: Alicia M

Model: Krystal B

What products did you use?: Redken Blonde Idol BBB Spray, and Redken Fashion Waves 07

What was your method?: I detangled her hair with BBB Spray so that I could comb her hair out. I divided her hair and braided it into two fat cornrows, which I sprayed with Fashion Waves. We rolled the ends of the braids up in rollers, and put her under the hood dryer to dry. Once her hair was dry, we took it down and finger combed it out.

What do you like about it?: Helped to give the braids grip, offers control in the hair, smells delightful! This product is fabulous!!!

Student stylist’s name: Brandy W

Model: Christina L

What products did you use?:  Redken Body Full Volume Amplifier and Redken Fashion Waves 07

What was your method?: I applied Body Full Amplifier directly onto the base of each section and blew them straight with a round brush for shine and smoothness. After her hair was dry, I applied Fashion Waves evenly throughout and used a 1 1/4 Inch Curling Iron to put in big loose curls all over her head.

What do you like about it?: Really great hold, so I was able to create a loose curl that wouldn’t fall out immediately! It smells great!

Top five ways to make the most of the sun!

It’s June, which means SUN. And as some of us learn (*cough*Lisaatthefrontdesk*cough*) the hard way, with sun can come pain–either in the form of sunburn, or equally distressing, damaged leathery wrinkled skin!  As a fair redhead, I know a thing or two about sunburn, (primarily how much sunburns suck)  and I want to help make sure that you can learn from my very real torment.

1. This should go without saying, but WEAR SUNBLOCK! Even on cloudy days, the sun’s rays can cause damage! Student esthetician DaleRae recommends using a minimum of SPF 15, every single day, without fail.  Dermalogica makes sun protection for all skin types. If you aren’t sure which one is right for you, this may help.

2. Okay so you put your sunblock on in the morning, you can forget about it for the rest of the day, right? Well, not quite. You should try to reapply every 90 minutes while in the sun and student esthetician, Shari W advises reapplying even more frequently than that if you are swimming or sweating.

3. If possible, stay out of the sun between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, the suns rays are at their strongest during this time, and you are much more likely to burn (or just damage your skin for those of you lucky enough to not burn!)

4. If you MUST be in the sun during those times, protect your skin with a large brimmed hat, sunglasses and loose long sleeved clothing.

5. What can you do if you do burn? STAY HYDRATED! Hydrate your skin externally with something soothing, healing, and cooling like my summer godsend, After Sun Repair, and also make sure to drink extra water to help hydrate your skin from the inside out as well (which, incidentally is always a good idea anyway…) Ibuprofen can help with the pain because it helps reduce inflammation.

If you follow these steps, you can enjoy the sun, pain free, all summer long!

The Awesome Journey

We are very fortunate to be able to watch the entire education process here at TSPA. The journey from first day of school to licensed stylist or skin therapist is a challenging and frustrating, but rewarding and beautiful journey. On their first day our students are timid but excited to get started. As they progress through their time with us, they will each learn more than they could have even known that they didn’t know.  There will be triumphs with the first successful guest service, or when they master a skill that seemed impossible they first time they saw it.  And, as with any education there will also be setbacks along the way, but each challenge is a lesson. By the time they leave us, they are ready to take on the world.

This week we were lucky to see both ends of the spectrum.

On Monday we hosted a “Take Your Income Over The Top” class. We told the attendees that we wanted to take a picture of all of the TSPA Grads in attendance, and had the pleasant realization that the vast majority of the attendees were grads! It just goes to show that our grads know  that a successful stylist or skin therapist’s education doesn’t ever stop!

And then on Tuesday, we welcomed our new May Cosmetology class! These ladies will be available for services starting in July!

We hosted a career fair on Wednesday that gave our students a chance to network with Salon Owners and Managers from all over the Puget Sound Region. Thank you to all the salons that came out, and to the students for all your hard work!

Also on Wednesday, one of our lovely educators, Mrs. Munson took a group of awesome students to the State Capitol for Career College Hill Day. This is the third time we have participated in this annual event that gives career college students a chance to meet with legislators and show off what they have learned! The TSPA ladies had a great time, and we were proud to have them represent us!
